Your voice, your words, your data
Last updated 28 October 2026
The short version
- Your voice is turned into text as you speak and is not kept.
- Your account holds your email, your name, your goal and the month and year you were born. Nothing else.
- Your practice history stays on your device. We do not store it on our servers.
- No advertising or analytics trackers.
- The services that help Speakray work are named below, with what each one receives.
Your account
Speakray accounts are for people aged 16 and over. When you sign up we ask for the month and year you were born, only to check that, and keep them with your account.
Your account is kept by Supabase, in Mumbai. It holds your email address, your full name, your nickname, your goal and your birth month and year. Only you can read or change your own details.
We sign you in with a six-digit code instead of a password. Resend sends that email for us, in its Tokyo region; it receives your email address and the code, and nothing about your practice.
If you choose to continue with Google, Google tells us your email address and name, which we use to fill in your account. We never see your Google password, and Google learns nothing about your practice.
When you speak
While a session runs, your microphone audio is sent live to Deepgram, which turns it into text. Speakray's replies are turned into speech by Deepgram too. We have opted out of Deepgram's model training, so Deepgram does not keep your audio or text after each request.
The microphone is only on during a conversation or practice test. Speakray does not save recordings.
Replies and scores
The text of your conversation, and your first name if you gave one, is sent to Groq, which writes Speakray's replies and scores your fluency, vocabulary and grammar at the end. Zero data retention is on for our Groq account, so Groq does not keep these requests. Groq processes them in the United States.
Pronunciation
To score pronunciation, short clips of your speech (up to 30 seconds each) are sent with their text to Microsoft Azure AI Speech, in its Central India region. A conversation sends a few clips; a practice test sends one for each answer. Azure scores each clip and returns the result; request logging is off, so the clips are not stored.
Sample answer videos
The sample answers page shows videos from YouTube, using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. Opening that page lets YouTube see your network address and browser, as with any embedded video; YouTube does not set tracking cookies until you play a video. Your practice and your voice are never sent to YouTube.
What stays on your device
Your practice history (what you said, your scores and your feedback), and any extra profile details you add on the profile page, are saved in this browser only. They are not uploaded to us, and they do not move to another device.
Logging out removes your profile details from this device. To delete your practice history as well, clear this site's data in your browser settings.
Cookies and fair use
Speakray sets sign-in cookies that keep you signed in. They hold a signed token with your account ID and email address, and nothing else.
To keep the service fair for everyone, we count how many requests each account makes per minute. The counts are kept by Upstash, in Mumbai, and expire within two minutes. Supabase limits how often sign-in codes can be requested.
Our own logs
Our server logs record that a request happened, how long it took and its size. They never record what you said.
AI transparency
Speakray's replies, roleplay characters, scores and feedback are written by AI. We work to keep them accurate and fair, but they can occasionally be wrong, and a score is always an estimate, not an official result. If something looks wrong, please tell us.
Deleting your data
Your practice history is kept only in this browser, so you can delete it yourself at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Deleted history cannot be recovered.
To delete your account (your email, name, goal and birth month), write to us from the email address you signed up with and we will delete it. We do not keep your recordings or your conversations on our servers.
Reporting concerns
If you see inappropriate or incorrect content, or have a safety or privacy concern, write to us. We look into every report and reply within a reasonable time.
Changes
If Speakray starts using another service or keeping something new, this page will say so before it happens, with a new date at the top.
